August Bournonville (1805-1879), loved to entertain and showcased a true sense of joy of dance to his audience. Bournonville was a world traveler who loved to explore different cultures and incorporated many of those influences and stories in his ballets. The 1st act of A Tribute to Bournonville gives homage to the academic side of his choreography and finishes with excerpts from his romantic inspired works. The 2nd act takes the audience on a journey from trolls and sylphs to Scottish dance and eventually concludes with the festive and colorful dances from Bournonville’s “Napoli.”  “We are so excited to present this tribute to Bournonville’s work, and give our students the opportunity to experience Bournonville’s distinct and joyful style of dance in our Spring Concert 2014 performance.” – Nilas Martins, Academy Co-Director
