About Nevada Ballet Theatre’s Future Dance
Nevada Ballet Theatre has been a leader in arts education since 1980. Future Dance, its recognized and successful outreach program, was established in 1993 and currently serves thousands of students a year through its initiatives. By offering free in-school dance instruction and the opportunity to earn scholarships, Future Dance seeks to expose children from underserved communities to the art form of dance and provide dedicated students with a premiere arts education.

Movement/Music/Expression/Communication
Through the language and movement of dance, Nevada Ballet Theatre’s Future Dance Teaching Artists aid to empower our youth to use their bodies to communicate and express ideas. Through commitment and practice, students learn exercises to help build coordination, balance, flexibility, athleticism, strength, self-confidence, rhythm and spatial awareness. Our Teaching Artists provide students with knowledge in a variety of disciplines which are designed to demonstrate how dance corresponds to the many cultures of our society.

GO-MOVE-DANCE!!! – DANCE DISCOVERY – NBT-AGASSI PARTNERSHIP FOR DANCE
GO-MOVE-DANCE!!! is an elementary school residency program that coincides with the school year offering students 25 weeks of free, in-school dance instruction. Students are taught a variety of disciplines, with a focus on ballet, jazz and hip-hop and classes are taught by qualified Future Dance Teaching Artists. Dedicated and talented students of GO-MOVE-DANCE!!! may be chosen to further pursue dance and graduate into Dance Discovery.
New schools that wish to experience GO-MOVE-DANCE!!! but prefer a briefer time commitment, can participate in the program for only 12 weeks, rather than the full 25. Schools that successfully complete this shorter term residency may be brought on for the full program the following school year.
Through a special satellite program, Nevada Ballet Theatre’s Dance Discovery offers students in need the opportunity for preparatory level ballet classes in a more focused atmosphere at the West Las Vegas Arts Center. Students of GO-MOVE-DANCE!!! and Dance Discovery will garner live performance experience by participating in a choreographed year-end spring concert, with each school showcasing their accomplishments.

In 2009, Nevada Ballet Theatre expanded its outreach in the community even further by entering into the NBT-AGASSI PARTNERSHIP FOR DANCE with the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy. With instruction in all forms of dance, the course incorporates dance films and performance videos from Nevada Ballet Theatre’s professional company as well anatomy and bi-weekly presentations in order to create a comprehensive learning experience. As part of the class, students also perform in both the Dance Discovery Spring Concert as well as the Future Dance Spring Concert in May.

Dancing is just discovery, discovery, discovery. - Martha Graham

Performance ~ Watching it Come to Life
A DOLLAR FOR DANCE - For only $1, students can witness the magic of live performance!
Since its inception, Nevada Ballet Theatre has been inviting students from the Clark County School District to experience a special matinee performance of a professional company production. In addition to the performance, a question and answer period is held, giving students a greater understanding of the creative process and the behind-the-scenes work that is needed to bring a fully-produced production to the stage. Support materials and teacher preparation guides are provided so that students are properly prepared for what they are about to see.
A CHOREOGRAPHERS’ SHOWCASE School Matinee
Students from Future Dance as well as other public, private and parochial schools in Clark County attend a special matinee performance each year of A Choreographers’ Showcase – a special collaboration between Nevada Ballet Theatre and Cirque du Soleil held at the Mystère Theatre at Treasure Island. Students who attend this performance are subsidized through ticket sales from the public performances.

WHY FUTURE DANCE NEEDS
YOUR SUPPORT
Future Dance actively engages children in the arts with a goal to establish positive habits at an early age. Students learn to develop a healthy self-esteem and a strong work ethic.
Critical to the success of Future Dance is our proven ability to fund and manage the above programs, provide high quality instructors and build community advocacy. With continued donor support and recognition, Nevada Ballet Theatre can continue to build and maintain these initiatives and most importantly, ensure that children are given a chance to dance.
